Louisiana is offering free microchips for saddles to help their owners recover them if they're stolen.
A saddle can cost anywhere from under $200 to tens of thousands of dollars, but a microchip only costs $3.
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry says saddles are popular items to steal because they don't have serial numbers or other identifiable marks.
The Livestock Brand Commission's first free microchipping session is scheduled for May 19t at Red River Farm Supply in Effie.
