Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is extending the deadline for residents to get a policy with the state's insurer of last resort.

More than 80,000 homeowners had their policies canceled by three insurers.

Lighthouse and Southern Fidelity were bankrupted by Hurricane Ida, and Maison pulled out of Louisiana.

Donelon says former Lighthouse and Maison customers have until August 28 to get a policy from Louisiana Citizens.

Southern Fidelity policyholders have until September 13.
