About half of the juvenile inmates at the escape-prone Bridge City Center for Youth will be temporarily moved to the state prison at Angola.

Gov. John Bel Edwards said on Tuesday that the transfer will happen within the next month.

The juveniles will be kept separate from adult inmates at Angola and will then be moved again to a segregated part of the women's prison at Jetson.

There have been at least five escapes from Bridge City since November.

After the most recent, on Sunday, a 17-year-old escapee reportedly shot and critically wounded a man in a carjacking attempt in New Orleans.
