Former Louisiana state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson will be sentenced in December after pleading guilty to federal wire fraud on Monday.

Peterson admitted to misdirecting more than $147,000 in campaign funds to pay for her gambling habit.

She said four friends would accept a fee to cash checks she'd written on her campaign accounts. Her defense attorney says she's already repaid the money.

Peterson faces up to 20 years in prison.
