A funeral is planned for a Slidell K-9 that died on Thursday after helping track down and catch a burglary suspect.
Slidell police say Officer Kano, an eight-year-old German shepherd, and his handler flushed the suspect out of some woods early Thursday morning.
Afterward, Kano was lethargic and couldn't catch his breath.
An ultrasound at Pontchartrain Animal Clinic found undiagnosed spleen cancer, and the dog had to be put down.
Kano's funeral will be held at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium at 11 a.m. next Wednesday, August 17.
