The two drug-sniffing K-9s with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office now have new protective vests.
The custom vests, which are resistant to stabbing and shooting, are from the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
The group has provided 6,000 vests to police K9s nationwide.
The vests cost $1,800 each, so the donation is especially helpful to smaller departments that don't have room for them in the budget.
