The White House is reportedly considering a request from a state representative to designate a new Mississippi River bridge as a nationally significant freight and mobility project.
Paul Sawyer, a Baton Rouge Republican, sent the request to the White House. He says the recognition would strengthen the case for federal funding and help streamline the permitting process.
Sawyer says the I-10 and I-12 corridor is the nation's busiest freight route and that the passage through Baton Rouge is a massive bottleneck that creates delays.
