New Orleans City Council Approves Sanitation Fee Hike

The trash pickup fee in New Orleans is going up this fall.

The City Council approved an increase in the city's sanitation fee on Thursday by a 6-1 vote.

Starting October 1st, the monthly fee for residential customers will increase from $24 to $32.25.

A recent state audit found New Orleans spent more than $21 million on sanitation services last year.

City leaders say the new rates will be in effect through the end of 2027, with another increase possible in 2028.
