The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for the absence of their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, after he suffered a hip injury during Wednesday's (September 9) season-opening victory against the New England Patriots. Darnold, 29, was injured early in the game after being sacked by Patriots edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones, which led to his exit after just five snaps.
According to Arizona Sports, Darnold was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for further evaluation, where initial X-rays ruled out a fracture. However, more tests, including an MRI, are scheduled to determine the full extent of the injury.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald provided a positive update, stating that the team had "dodged a bullet" regarding the seriousness of the injury. While the Seahawks are optimistic, Darnold's availability for the upcoming Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals remains uncertain.
Yahoo Sports reported that backup quarterback Drew Lock, who stepped in for Darnold, is expected to start against the Cardinals. Lock completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Patriots.
