Jefferson Parish Council OKs Water Meter Audit

The Jefferson Parish Council is giving the go-ahead to hiring LSU New Orleans to audit the parish's water meters.

The audit will try to find out if unusually high utility bills could be the result of problems with the meters.

Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng encouraged residents with questions about their water bills to call the water department for an individual review.

Lee Sheng says properties often have a leak, but the water department can also look at historical data and spot water usage trends.
