The NFL is potentially going to release new helmets for players that will double as protection from the coronavirus.

During an episode of Adam Schefter's podcast, Medical Director of the NFL Player's Association Thom Mayer announced yesterday that he has been working on prototype helmets to protect the players.

In the episode, Mayer described the prototypes and said that some of them include a form of surgical or N95 mask material to help limit the virus' spread on-field.

He added that it's still unclear what, if any, modifications to NFL helmets might look like, but it's possible the entire piece of equipment could be covered with some kind of material.

The NFL is continuing forward as planned for its season and announced its 2020 schedules earlier this month.

The Saints' first preseason game is scheduled for August 23rd on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
