Gulf Storms Not Showing Sign Of Further Development

The National Hurricane Center said Monday afternoon an area of clouds, showers and storms they are watching closely is not showing signs of further development at this time.

The NHC has dropped its chances of becoming a tropical system at 30% over the next five days.

"Although this system could still acquire some subtropical or tropical characteristics while it moves slowly northward across the eastern Gulf of Mexico during the next few days, the low has not shown signs of increased organization during the past 24 hours," read the latest special tropical weather outlook.

Forecasters noted the system still poses a threat for locally heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding for parts of Florida and the southeast United States.

It does not appear that the system will impact conditions in southeast Louisiana, which look to remain hot over the next week with just an isolated shower or storm possible.
