Tropical Depression Could Form In Atlantic By Early Next Week

The chances of a tropical wave in the far Atlantic becoming at least a tropical depression are growing.

The National Hurricane Center put those chances at 50% over the next five days, with a depression possible early next week east of the Lesser Antilles, but in the short-term, no significant development is expected as the wave moves westward.

The NHC says another tropical wave continues to bring showers and storms to Puerto Rico and the southeastern Bahamas. As it moves northwestward over the next few days, locally heavy rain amounts are possible for parts of the Greater Antilles, Bahamas and Florida.

As the systems curves off the U.S. East Coast by the weekend, it could encounter slightly more favorable conditions for development, though the chances for that remain low at 10%.
