The National Hurricane Center named a broad area of low pressure with associated shower and thunderstorm activity a potential tropical cyclone Tuesday, which allowed the agency to issue tropical storm warnings for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Other islands are also under a tropical storm warnings issued by their respective governments.
The NHC believes the system will become Tropical Storm Isaias before reaching the Leeward Islands.
"It cannot be stressed enough that since the system is still in the formative stage, greater than average uncertainty exists regarding both the short-term and longer-term track and intensity forecasts," read the 10 a.m. CDT discussion from the NHC.
For now, the official track takes a tropical storm towards Florida by day 5.
