The National Weather Service is issuing a Flash Flood Watch for all of southeast Louisiana until midnight on Thursday.
Officials say rainfall up to four to eight inches and could lead to street flooding, making roadways slick and leaving standing water in places.
New Orleans officials warned residents of the potential of heavier flooding because they do not have the backup capacity in case of a loss of power to the city's pumps.
Currently, the New Orleans Water and Sewerage says 96 of 99 drainage pumps are available.
