The National Hurricane Center highlighted an area off the southeastern U.S. coast Monday for possible tropical development.
Forecasters put the chance of development on the low end at 10 percent over the next seven days.
"If the system remains offshore, the low could gradually develop some subtropical or tropical characteristics later this week while moving northeastward at 10 to 15 mph," said the NHC.
The six-month Atlantic hurricane season began on Sunday and runs through the end of November.
