The Lake Charles office of the National Weather Service says Cottonport in Avoyelles Parish has the new Louisiana record for 24-hour rainfall.
Meteorologists confirmed Wednesday that a rain gauge near Cottonport showed just over 29 inches of rain.
The downpour happened as Tropical Storm Arthur made its way through the area last week.
The previous record was 22 inches in Hackberry in 1962, and wasn't associated with a tropical storm.
The record is for a 24-hour total, but all 29 inches of rain fell on Cottonport in less than 12 hours.
