The National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Edouard will form soon in the Gulf.
As of 1pm Monday, the system was officially designated a tropical depression, with max winds of 35 miles per hour, just below tropical storm strength. The depression continued to move west-northwest at 5 miles per hour.
A tropical storm warning was issued along the northwestern Gulf Coast from Port Bolivar, Texas to the Vermillion/Cameron Parish line in Louisiana.
Impacts to southeast Louisiana are expected to be passing tropical showers.
"It does not pose a significant threat to the local area, but increased rain chances can be expected through Tuesday, with a marginal threat of locally heavy rainfall/flash flooding," said the National Weather Service office in Slidell on Monday morning.
Southwest Louisiana could see two to three inches of rain, while the Upper Texas Coast inland through east-central Texas could see rainfall amounts of three to six inches, along with locally higher amounts up to 9 inches.
