Turns Out, Trump Rallies Did Not Increase Hate Crimes By 226%

According to Reason, a study by three professors at the University of North Texas and Texas A&M claiming that Trump rallies are associated with a 226 percent increase in such incidents, was flawed.

The writers of the original article conducted their own study and attempted to replicate the headline results of the study that went viral. Their study was able to draw a similar correlation between comments by 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton and hate crime numbers. They don't actually believe that comments by Clinton led to an increase in hate crimes. They seem to be making the point that it's impossible to prove that rhetoric from either left or right would lead to such numbers, and that a liberal bias in media and academia leads to researchers and outlets making that leap of logic that President Trump's caustic and seemingly racist rhetoric contributed to a crueler, more discriminatory climate, ripe for hate crimes.
