State Could Require Unanimous Verdicts In All Felony Cases

A change to the Louisiana Constitution is being proposed that would require a unanimous jury verdict to convict anyone charged with any felony.

The legislation has cleared committee and is headed to the full Senate for consideration.

Current law requires a minimum 10-2 vote by the jury to convict, except in capital cases where a unanimous verdict is already required.
