For the first time in the event's history, metal detectors will be used as crowds enter the New Orleans Fairground for this year's Jazz Fest.
The first weekend of the 49th year of the festival begins Friday.
More than two dozen metal detectors are being deployed, as well as other safety measures that were instituted following the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
The latest move to insure crowd safety comes months after 58 people were killed by a lone gunman at a concert in Las Vegas.
