The U.S. Supreme Court may have lifted a federal ban on college and professional sports betting, but for now, it doesn't matter in Louisiana.
That's because legislation that might have permitted the practice in Louisiana has been rejected by the state's Senate Finance Committee, simply put, because a majority of the panel's members don't want it in Louisiana.
The move is expected to cost the state tens of millions of dollars in lost tax revenue, but the legislation could be resurrected at a later date.
