House Takes Action To Shrink State Budget's Fiscal Cliff

There's only a week left in a special legislative session to straighten out Louisiana's budget mess, but positive movement towards ending the crisis took place Memorial Day.

House members voted overwhelmingly in favor of keeping 1/3 of an expiring one-cent state sales tax that's expected to generate $370 million annually. That reduces the expected fiscal cliff come July 1st to about $300 million.

Meantime, the legislature still hasn't come up with a new budget for the state after the governor vetoed the one that landed on his desk recently.
