Gov. Edwards Signs Slim Budget

After two special legislative sessions and with a third on the calendar, Louisiana has a new state budget after Governor John Bel Edwards signed it into law last Friday.

It makes serious cuts, including effectively shutting down the state's food stamps program. Other cuts would affect the state's foster care system and education funding.

The cuts can still be avoided if the legislature agrees on extending higher tax rates.
