The annual Essence Festival is underway in New Orleans, marking the 24th edition of the event that's expected to have an economic impact of more than $250 million over its four-day run that continues through Sunday.
The festival is packed with seminars, speakers and concerts, including top-name acts such as Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg.
Hotels in the area are at near capacity.
