The some 17,000 customers of the New Orleans Sewage & Water Board who are behind in paying their bills will receive notice before the flow of water is cut off.
The agency has resumed shutoff activity following a months-long moratorium due to a problematic new billing system.
As a point of clarification, officials said this week that delinquent customers will receive a letter giving them ten days to pay up or file a formal dispute before the water's cut off.
Disconnections are expected to occur at the rate of about 50 homes a day.
