Sen. Kennedy Blasts Louisiana's Early Release Program

U.S. Senator John Kennedy says the Louisiana Department of Corrections early release program for inmates is not protecting the public.

The Justice Reinvestment Act has allowed the release of inmates without them first being evaluated for the risk to public safety.

The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette says one-in-three inmates released early in Ascension, Assumption and St. James parishes have re-offended.

Senator Kennedy says the state might be saving money by emptying the prisons, but the public is suffering the consequences.
