Cantrell Opposes Using Public Money For New Hotel

Mayor LaToya Cantrell is strongly opposed to using public money to build a new hotel.

The Convention Center Board Finance Committee met today to discuss a proposal that would use surplus money to fund the hotel just five days after the Mayor expressed her stance against it.

She urged the board to put the project on the back burner while they determine if public money should be used, especially if they will be building on free land and not have to pay property taxes.

Cantrell wants the board to defer all action involving plans for the hotel until it meets with her administration to come up with an agreement on public subsidy.
