A suspected gunman is hospitalized after being shot and wounded early Sunday by a Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy.
Authorities say 24-year-old Janarius Carey of Marrero was wounded in the leg, moments after he allegedly shot an 18-year-old clerk in the abdomen inside a gas station located at the corner of Barataria Boulevard and the Westbank Expressway.
The deputy, in apparent fear for his life, opened fire after Carey pointed a gun at him.
Carey, who is facing charges that include attempted second-degree murder, and his shooting victim remain hospitalized.
