15-Week Abortion Ban Still Unenforceable In Louisiana

A ruling by a federal judge in Jackson, Mississippi, leaves Louisiana with a still unenforceable ban on abortions after 15 weeks.

In striking down the law he had blocked with the approval of a restraining order, U.S. District Court Judge Carlton Reeves ruled Tuesday in favor of Mississippi's only abortion clinic.

He noted the 15-week ban, the strictest in the nation along with similar legislation passed in Louisiana, violates the 14th Amendment guaranteeing women the right "to control their own reproductive health."

There was no immediate word on whether the state would appeal the judge's ruling that also makes Louisiana's 15-week abortion ban illegal.
