The rain-swollen Mississippi River is becoming so mighty that Governor John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency because of the threat of flooding from it and other bodies of water.
He issued the declaration yesterday, allowing the state to coordinate with local governments in efforts to stave off flooding.
The National Weather Service has posted a flood warning along the length of the river, the high water levels the result of heavy rain runoff making its way south to the Gulf of Mexico.
