Unclaimed Property Checks Being Mailed To Louisiana Residents

You could be receiving an unexpected check from Louisiana's Treasury Department shortly, if not already.

Treasurer John Schroeder wants to assure the recipients it's "not a scam," but rather the second phase of a project to return unclaimed property money to individuals.

He says the some 44,000 checks totaling more than $4 million, with a maximum payment of $1,500, covers five years of unclaimed property records.

The first phase of the project last October doled out $15 million to 85,000 residents.
