The Council on Aging in New Orleans won't be getting any property tax help from city residents.
Voters gave a two-to-one thumbs down Saturday to a two-mill ballot issue that would have increased the tax of a person owning a $250,000 house by $35 a year.
Mayor Cantrell and the Bureau of Governmental Research urged defeat of the measure, even though the agency said it would help fund hot meal delivery to more than a thousand additional seniors and provide for more activities.
