Privately Funded Crime Cameras Being Added In Downtown New Orleans

New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says three dozen privately funded cameras are coming to downtown to help keep the city safe.

The Downtown Development District will pay for the cameras as part of the SafeCam Platinum program. The program integrates cameras installed outside homes and businesses across the city into the real-time crime center, creating a type of neighborhood watch program.

With the partnership, investigators are able to reduce the amount of time spent going door to door to check private cameras.
