The Bonnet Carre Spillway has set a new record for the most days operating in a single year.
Today marked the 76th day that the spillway has been operating in 2019, surpassing the previous record of 75 days set in 1973.
The spillway was opened to help prevent flooding downstream in New Orleans, but it has sparked backlash by many in the fishing industry saying the river water is causing damage.
