Plans are in place to begin closing the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish.
The Army Corps of Engineers announced yesterday they hope to start closing the spillway in the second or third week of July.
A recent report from the National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi River will soon reach 15.5 feet at the Carrollton Gauge which is the first safe level to begin closing the spillway.
