New Louisiana Car Seat Law Goes Info Effect Thursday

Stricter laws go into effect this week regarding how to restrain children in cars.

Previously, one-year-olds that weighed at least 20 pounds could be moved to a front-facing car seat, but now that's prohibited until the child is two.

Also, children must be at least 12 before riding outside of a child seat in the backseat.

Previously, the child had to be six and weigh more than 60 pounds.

The legislature moved to approve Act 51 after 110 children below the age of 14 died in vehicle crashes in the state over the past three years.
