City workers have removed an abandoned car that had been clogging a drainage tunnel in New Orleans.
It took more than five hours, some heavy equipment and a lot of elbow grease to get the Mazda 626 out of a tunnel near the Lafitte Greenway yesterday.
S&WB Director Ghassan Korban said the car, which was found to have a 2007 registration, had likely been in the canal for over a decade.
The Sewerage and Water Board noticed the drainage system was backing up after a rainstorm last month, then they discovered the car was clogging the tunnel earlier this week.
Work on clearing the rest of the debris from the canal is expected to take several more days.
