Louisiana is ranked in the top 20 states for fentanyl-related deaths.
According to a study by HealthTestingCenters.com called American Epidemic: Where in America is Fentanyl Claiming the Most Lives, the Big Easy ranks number 18 for the most deaths from fentanyl in the entire country.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the in-state deaths related to fentanyl has increased by more than 1000% from 2013 to 2017.
As of September 5th, 2019, 84 people have died of overdoses in East Baton Rouge Parish and of those deaths, 25 involved fentanyl.
