New Orleans To Launch New Initiatives To Fight Opioids

The district attorney for New Orleans is launching two new initiatives to reduce opioid-related deaths.

Leon Cannizzaro's plan, which was approved by the City Council last week, proposes a mapping program that allows police to track overdose cases in real time.

Cannizzaro also announced that the city granted his office $357,000 to bring in additional resources to fatal overdose investigations.

According to officials, the two-year grant will support a coroner's office investigator, an assistant district attorney and a case advocate.
