Swearing In At State House Slated For Today

Some of the state's most powerful elected officials will be sworn into office today, including Governor John Bel Edwards, a democrat, who won re-election in a race that drew the attention of the country.

The ceremony is slated for the State Capitol steps in Baton Rouge and will feature a 19-cannon salute, a flyover of F-15s by the Louisiana Air National Guard and the reading of a Maya Angelou poem.

Inside the Capitol, however, members are expected to elect a Republican speaker, cementing the GOP's control over the Legislature.
