JP Coroner Says Cause Of Death Of Teen Who Died In Custody Will Take Time

The Jefferson Parish Coroner says it will take longer than originally thought to determine the cause of death of an autistic teen who died in police custody.

Chief Investigator Mark Bone said the autopsy on the 16-year-old had been completed on Wednesday, but the cause of death is still pending.

The teen died after becoming unresponsive while suffering a medical emergency shortly after he attacked and bit his father and a deputy.

Bone said tests on blood, genetic background, brain cells, and the heart are expected to take more than a month to complete.
