St. James Parish First Coronavirus Patient Dies

A patient at St. James Parish Hospital is dead due to the coronavirus.

Hospital officials say the patient, who is above the age of 60 and had underlying health conditions, was the one case of COVID-19 in the parish.

Another person from Jefferson Parish also died due to the coronavirus on Wednesday, moving Louisiana's death toll up to eight.

Four of the New Orleans residents who died were living in Lambeth House, an Uptown nursing home that has reported a cluster of cases.

That is an increase of 60 cases overnight. Gov. John Bel Edwards warned residents Wednesday that the number of confirmed cases could grow quickly now that additional testing is coming online across the state.
