65 Deaths Now Blamed On COVID-19 Coronavirus In Louisiana

The death toll from the COVID-19 coronavirus in Louisiana has increased to 65.

The Wednesday update from the Louisiana Department of Health put the number of cases reported at 1,795 across 48 of the state's 64 parishes.

Orleans Parish alone has reported 827 cases and 37 deaths. Jefferson Parish has 359 cases and 7 deaths, followed by East Baton Rouge Parish with 75 cases and 3 deaths.

LDH reported that 491 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized with 163 needing ventilation, an increase from Tuesday of 271 and 94, respectively.

The Department of Health also said it has identified COVID-19 clusters, two or more cases that appear to be connected, in six nursing homes across the state. "With the involvement of hospitals and multiple providers and the growth in cases of nursing home residents, the Department of Health will no longer be reporting where positive cases have been identified," read a press release.
