Health experts are linking the high infection rate of COVID-19 in Louisiana to Mardi Gras.
Governor John Bel Edwards shared a theory that Mardi Gras sped up the spread of COVID-19 mentioning that the first case was confirmed 13 days after Fat Tuesday in New Orleans.
Professor of epidemiology at the LSU Medical Center Dr. Susanne Straif-Bourgeois says Edwards based that theory off of a model the university provided to the governor's office.
Louisiana has nearly 1,800 confirmed cases with 827 of them in Orleans Parish.
