A New Orleans Police officer is expected to recover after being shot yesterday morning at an apartment complex off Bundy Road.
The officer was wounded while exchanging gunfire with 28-year-old Horace Toppins, who was being investigated on suspicion of domestic violence.
A woman who was in the apartment with two children when Toppins began firing described the actions of the officer as heroic and credited him with saving their lives.
The officer was hit in the right arm and is listed in stable condition while Toppins is now in custody on a charge of attempted murder.
