La. Lawmakers Advancing Bill For In-State Sports Wagering To Be Legalized

A bill on sports wagering in Louisiana is moving forward after being approved by a state legislative committee on Tuesday.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Cameron Henry does not set rules on who can and cannot place bets and instead creates a mechanism to see which individual parishes want it to be legal.

Henry said the bill could be hammered out again in the next session to address who will be eligible to make bets.

If approved by the full legislature, the bill will then head to the ballot in November for voters to decide if they want their parish to allow wagers on sports.
