La. Lawmakers Will Still Receive Per Diem Pay For Missed COVID-19 Days

Louisiana lawmakers are receiving almost $2 million in per diem payments after not meeting for a month-and-a-half.

This year's legislative session may not have met every day due to the coronavirus pandemic, but lawmakers will be paid for all 85 days of this session and will be paid more if a special session is called.

During the time off, government officials were paid almost $8,000.

Senate president Page Cortez says the state constitution prohibits the reduction of an elected public official's payment during an elected term.
