The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board says it has successfully tested a new procedure for using its turbines during storms.
Officials confirmed yesterday that changes to turbine power procedures were tested on Wednesday, and the results will be implemented moving forward.
SW&B Press Secretary Courtney Barnes said engineers experimented with turning on equipment sooner to ensure there is enough backup power to compensate for the loss of a turbine.
Barnes said each storm behaves differently, and they will continue to work towards adapting to each event as it happens.
