Edwards: 4 Dead From Laura; Wind, Rain Caused Lots Of Damage

Governor John Bel Edwards says four people are dead as a result of Laura moving through the state.

He told reporters all happened due to trees falling on where folks lived.

Edwards said there's a great deal of damage in the state due to rain and wind from Laura.

It's now a tropical storm, but Edwards says hundreds of thousands are without power.

Edwards is worried about terrible damage done to the power infrastructure and he says restoration will take time.

He is grateful the storm surge wasn't as bad as expected, and noted that they never lost communications with the affected areas, saying that's a first.
